Srinagar : Police in Shopian on Monday solved a theft case within hours of its registration, leading to the arrest of an accused person and recovery of stolen property.
In a statement issued here on Monday police said that On February 8, a complaint was filed by one Mohd Altaf Wani, the owner of M/S “Mobile World” in Shopian, reporting a burglary at his mobile shop. The incident occurred during night intervening February 7-8, when unknown individuals broke in and stole mobile phones and accessories. Following the complaint, a case was registered under FIR No. 08/2026 besides initiating an investigation. Through technical analysis and diligent investigative work, police apprehended Umar Akbar Malik, a resident of Khasipora, Shopian, who was identified as one of the suspects. Upon his arrest, police recovered five mobile phones, one tablet, one Apple Watch, and additional accessories. During investigation the involvement of a juvenile associate of Malik was established but his identity has been withheld in accordance with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. Ongoing investigations are expected to yield further insights into the case. In its statement Police reiterated its commitment to uphold law and order, assuring therein a thorough and impartial action against all individuals engaged in criminal activities.
