SKUAST-K organises Awareness Prog for Sheep Breeders at G’bal

Ganderbal: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir organised a one-day awareness-cum-training programme at Tulmulla, Ganderbal.
The event, conducted by SKUAST-K’s Division of Animal Genetics and Breeding (AGB), Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Sheep Husbandry, Shuhama in collaboration with the Sheep Husbandry Department Kashmir, was specifically designed to empower the local livestock community under the aegis of Ministry of MSME, Government of India.
Over 60 sheep breeders from various pockets of District Ganderbal participated in the training. The primary focus of the session was to bridge the gap between traditional practices and modern scientific interventions for profitable sheep farming.
On the occasion, the participants were briefed on various government schemes and developmental projects aimed at boosting entrepreneurship in the sheep sector. The untapped potential for local youth to transform sheep rearing into a sustainable commercial venture through state-led initiatives was highlighted.
The experts educated participants on scientific livestock rearing, precise dosing, and strict vaccination schedules. Significant emphasis was also placed on the rising threat of antimicrobial resistance and the adoption of innovative, sustainable approaches to livestock health.
Dr Syed Shanaz, Head of the Division of AGB, sensitized the breeders to the benefits of innovative methodologies for building profitable enterprises. She underscored the importance of MSME-sponsored programmes in providing the necessary technical and financial awareness to small-scale farmers.
