The DC assessed the enforcement of traffic rules, identification of accident-prone black spots, road maintenance, traffic management systems etc.
Stress was laid on keeping close check on overloading and overspeeding, curbing rash driving, conducting awareness programmes, improving, decongesting busy routes, installing proper signage and carrying out safety audits of all major roads.
The DC exhorted the concerned departments to encourage public participation to achieve tangible improvement in road safety outcomes.
Emphasis was also laid on conducting continuous road safety awareness programmes in colleges and other educational institutions.
Executive Engineers of PWD and PMGSY were directed to ensure regular maintenance of roads to prevent mishaps. They were also asked to identify black spots and take corrective measures by installing signboards, road markings and crash barriers at vulnerable locations.
