Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested a man accused of posing as a land broker and cheating innocent people by falsely presenting disputed and government land as his private property.
In a statement issued here on Saturday Police said that one Javid Ahmad Gojree, a resident of Rangil, Ganderbal, has been accused of deceiving multiple individuals by presenting land that was later verified to be either disputed or government-owned. This fraudulent activity led victims to invest under false pretenses. The police investigation revealed that Gojree is a habitual offender with a history of criminal involvement, including multiple FIRs for offenses such as cheating, forgery, criminal trespass, and intimidation. The investigation is underway, with several complaints from individuals who were misled by Gojree regarding the ownership of the land. In its statement Police has appealed people to thoroughly verify land records and engage only with authorized and legitimate brokers when conducting land transactions, urging them to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to facilitate timely legal action.
