Survivors, specialists come together in Srinagar as hospital conducts free oncology screenings to promote early detection
Srinagar: On World Cancer Day, Paras Health Srinagar launched “Umeed Ke Sitare,” an initiative focused on celebrating cancer survivors while addressing the challenges they face during diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
The event gathered cancer survivors, caregivers, medical professionals, and hospital leadership to promote awareness, early detection, and emotional resilience in the fight against cancer. The initiative was spearheaded by Dr. Murtuza Habib, Facility Director, along with a team of clinical leaders who emphasized the importance of early screening and emotional support in cancer care. They highlighted the rising incidence of cancer and the critical gaps in early detection, noting that many patients present at advanced stages due to delayed reporting and lack of awareness. Dr. Habib stressed the need for timely medical intervention and the importance of combating fear, misinformation, and financial stress that patients often encounter. As part of the initiative, a free oncology screening camp was conducted, benefiting over 60 individuals and promoting preventive healthcare. Cancer survivors shared their personal stories of resilience, underscoring the significance of early diagnosis, family support, and expert medical care in their recovery journeys. Their experiences served as motivation for current patients, reinforcing the message that cancer is treatable and survivorship is achievable. The event aimed to break down barriers to care and create a supportive environment for those affected by cancer in the region.
