Ramban:  The 84 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Thursday inaugurated the Shaheed Mushtaq Ahmed Memorial Volleyball Tournament 2026 at Chanderkote, as part of its civic outreach initiative to promote sports and youth engagement in the district.

The CRPF, entrusted with maintaining internal security across the country, is actively deployed in Jammu & Kashmir. The 84 Bn CRPF secures over a 47 km stretch of National Highway-44 in Ramban, a vital lifeline to the Kashmir Valley. Alongside its security duties, the force regularly undertakes social outreach programmes to strengthen its bond with the local community.

Keeping in view the mountainous terrain of Ramban and limited sports infrastructure for youth, the tournament aims to encourage physical fitness, discipline, teamwork and positive engagement through sports.

A total of eight teams from Chanderkote, Dalwas, Batote and Sanasar areas are participating in the knockout competition being organised under the aegis of Jammu Sector CRPF.

The tournament was formally declared open by Commandant 84 Bn N. Ranbir Singh in the presence of Second-in-Command Vikram Singh, Second-in-Command Arvin Kumar Dixit, Assistant Commandants Roop Ram Meena and Rupesh Kumar, CRPF personnel, players and local youth. The Commandant highlighted the CRPF’s contribution to nation-building and motivated participants to adopt sports for a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.

On the opening day, Chenab Warriors Chanderkote defeated Sama Brothers Batote (25-06, 25-08), while Team Chanderkote beat Team Dalwas (25-13, 25-21). Sports kits were also distributed among all participating tea
