Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has taken preventive action against an individual found to be repeatedly making false emergency calls, thereby misusing the ERSS-112 helpline and wasting valuable police resources here in Ganderbal.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday Police said that Police Post Shadipora received inputs from Parvaiz Ahmad about an alleged assault on his wife prompting immediate police intervention. Upon arrival at the specified location, officers found that the caller had turned off his mobile phone, leading to the discovery that the complaint was false and misleading. Further investigation revealed that Parvaiz Ahmad is a habitual offender, having made multiple false distress calls, including three in January 2026. His actions were determined to be intentional, aimed at causing unnecessary panic and diverting police attention from genuine emergencies. Based on statements from his wife and family, and considering his repeated misuse of emergency services police detained him under preventive legal provisions to uphold the integrity of the ERSS-112 emergency response system. Police in its statement said that ERSS-112 is intended solely for genuine emergencies, adding there in that misuse of this critical service not only results in legal repercussions but also obstructs timely assistance to those in real need, appealing therein people to use emergency system responsibly and to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure public safety.
