Speaker JKLA releases “Kuliyat Janbaaz Kishtwari” at KL Saigal Hall

Jammu: Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, today released the book “KuliyatJanbaaz Kishtwari”, a comprehensive collection of works by renowned Kashmiri poet Janbaaz Kishtwari at a literary function at KL Sahgal Hall, Jammu.
The function was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), in collaboration with Chalant Cultural Forum, Kishtwar.
The Speaker lauded the contribution of JanbaazKishtwari to Kashmiri literature and emphasized the role of such literary initiatives in preserving and promoting the region’s rich cultural heritage. He also shared fond memories and personal reflections associated with the late poet, highlighting his simplicity, depth of thought and commitment to literary excellence.
Rather said that JanbaazKishtwari was a prominent figure in the cultural landscape of J&K Known for his contribution to Kashmiri culture, literature and distinct singing style. “JanbaazKishtwari is recognized as a cultural icon who brought the soul of the Chenab Valley to his art”, he added.
Principal Secretary, Culture Department, BM Sharma, Secretary, JKAACL, Harvinder Kour, Zubair Ahmad Janbaaz (son of JanbaazKishtwari), along with a galaxy of eminent writers, poets, scholars and literary enthusiasts were present on the occasion.
In his address, Brij Mohan highlighted the significance of compiling the complete works of Janbaaz Kishtwari, stating that the publication would serve as an important reference for researchers, students and lovers of Kashmiri literature, while also ensuring that the poet’s legacy is preserved for future generations.
The book release session was presided over by Professor Shad Ramzan, who in his presidential remarks, termed JanbaazKishtwari as a towering figure of Kashmiri poetry whose creative expression reflected social realities, human emotions, and cultural consciousness.
A detailed paper on the book was presented by ManshoorBanihali, who critically analyzed the poetic themes, linguistic richness and stylistic nuances of JanbaazKishtwari’s work.
Earlier, Shamima Akhter, daughter of Janbaaz Kishtwari, expressed gratitude to JKAACL for honoring her father’s literary contributions through the publication of his complete works.
A poetry session was also held during the event, in which noted poets Ali Mohammad Reshi, Muzaffar Hussain Dilbar, Shabir Hussain Brij, Nath Pandit (Betab), Gulam Nabi Mir (Zahil Banihali), Sayed Akhtar Hussain (Mansoor) and Mushtaq Ahmad Kishtwari recited their poetic compositions, enthralling the audience with the depth and diversity of Kashmiri poetic expression.
A soulful musical tribute was paid to the legendary poet by renowned artists of Jammu and Kashmir, including Gulzar Ganaie and Party, Nisar Ahmad Doolwal and Party, Dr. Deepali Watal and Dr. Chanchal Sharma, which deeply moved the audience.
It was announced on the occasion that an All India Kashmiri Mushaira would be organized soon under the aegis of JKAACL, with the aim of providing a national platform to Kashmiri poets and promoting linguistic and cultural harmony.
The event concluded with rich literary discussions and appreciation of the timeless poetic legacy of Janbaaz Kishtwari.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Gulzar Ahmad Rather, Assistant Editor, JKAACL while Secretary, JKAACL, Harvinder Kour, presented vote of thanks.
