GDC Ramkote organizes maiden NSS winter camp

Kathua: A maiden Special Winter Camp was inaugurated Monday at Government Degree College (GDC)-Ramkote with great enthusiasm and a sense of social commitment.
The weeklong camp (February 2 to February 9, 2026) has been organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Principal of the college, Dr Rakesh Kumar Koul, followed by Sarasvati Vandana by Taniya, Reeta, Pallavi and Reenu Devi.
NSS volunteer from BA Semester II Bhawani Gupta delivered the welcome address. She extended greetings to the guests, NSS volunteers, faculty members and students.
NSS Convener Prof. Suresh Chander congratulated all the volunteers for showing the true spirit of Service before Self. NSS Programme Officer, Prof Anu Sharma highlighted the objectives of the NSS Winter Camp and encouraged volunteers to actively participate in community-oriented programmes with dedication and discipline. A brief schedule of activities was shared with the participating volunteers.
The programme also featured insightful speeches by NSS student volunteers Kriti Devi, Priya Devi, Taniya Sharma and Hiritika Maski.
The students spoke in detail about the history and background of the National Service Scheme, explaining its origin and purpose. They elaborated on the NSS logo and motto, highlighting their significance and relevance in promoting social awareness and national integration. Minakshi Devi spoke on the National Awards through NSS, motivating volunteers to strive for excellence in service and commitment.
The inaugural ceremony concluded with a formal and inspiring address by the Principal of the college. He underlined the role of NSS in fostering leadership, teamwork and a spirit of selfless service. He also highlighted the essential qualities required to become an ideal citizen, such as integrity, spirituality, empathy, social responsibility and active community engagement. The Principal encouraged students to utilize the NSS platform to connect with society, understand grassroots issues and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
