Srinagar : In a significant step towards strengthening post-harvest infrastructure and supporting farmers in the Kashmir Valley, Director Agriculture Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmad Shah, Monday dedicated a fully equipped Mobile Air-Conditioned Van to the farming community.
The van is specifically designed for the safe and efficient transportation of perishable agricultural produce within the valley and to markets outside the region.
The vehicle, procured under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP)- a flagship initiative of the Agriculture Production Department, Government of Jammu & Kashmir-addresses key challenges faced by farmers, including spoilage during transit, limited access to refrigerated transport, and fluctuating market prices due to quality degradation.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director emphasized the government’s commitment to farmer welfare and modernization of agriculture in Kashmir. “This mobile air-conditioned van is a practical intervention under HADP to reduce post-harvest losses, preserve the freshness and quality of our farmers’ produce such as fruits, vegetables, and other perishables and enable better market access”, he added.
“It will empower growers to transport their harvest reliably to distant markets, fetch remunerative prices, and contribute to the overall growth of the agricultural economy in the region,” he said.
The van features advanced air-conditioning and cooling systems to maintain optimal temperature and humidity levels during transportation, ensuring minimal damage to delicate crops. It is expected to benefit small and marginal farmers, cooperatives, and producer groups by providing an affordable, on-demand transport solution.
This initiative aligns with the broader objectives of HADP, which focuses on holistic development through infrastructure enhancement, value addition, market linkages, and sustainability in agriculture and allied sectors across Jammu & Kashmir.
The Directorate of Agriculture Kashmir remains dedicated to implementing innovative schemes that directly uplift farmers and promote resilient, profitable farming practices.
On the occasion Chief Agriculture Officer Srinagar, Ajaz Hussain Dar and other senior officers of the department were also present.
