Road Safety awareness camp held at Kishtwar

Kishtwar : The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), Kishtwar, in collaboration with the Transport Union, Health & AYUSH Department, J&K Bank, J&K Traffic Police and NHIDCL, on Saturday organised a comprehensive Road Safety Programme for drivers, transporters and the general public here at the Bus Stand.
The programme was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Pankaj Kumar Sharma as the chief guest.
The initiative aimed at promoting road safety awareness, responsible driving practices and public health, while also addressing issues related to drug abuse and promoting social responsibility among the transport operators.
A range of activities were held during the programme, including a Road Safety Signature Campaign, distribution of free first aid kits, medical and eye check-up camps and on-the-spot registration for the government Welfare Schemes(Insurance).

Two important public campaigns—“Swachh Transport for Kishtwar” and “Be Kind to Animals” in the transport sector—were formally launched on the occasion. Rapid drug tests were also conducted, alongside awareness sessions on safe driving practices, traffic rules and the ill effects of drug abuse.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the critical importance of road safety and responsibility of drivers in safeguarding lives. He appreciated the efforts of the Motor Vehicles Department and commended the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) for successfully coordinating the programme and introducing impactful initiatives.
The ARTO briefed the participants about the objectives of the programme and elaborated on the various activities undertaken to enhance road safety and driver welfare in the district.
Adding a cultural and educational touch, a Nukad Natak (street play) conveying strong social messages on road safety and responsible behaviour was presented by Aazil and team from Kishtwar Act Production, which was well received by the audience.
The programme witnessed the participation of several senior officers and stakeholders, including Cluster Head J&K Bank Khurshid Akhoon; DySP HQ, Dr. Ishan Gupta; DySP Traffic Farooq Khateeb; BMO Dr. Anil Sharma ; Lead Bank Manager, DTI Traffic, MVIs and members of the local Transport Union.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to work collectively towards safer roads and a responsible transport culture in Kishtwar district.
