Hosted at the picturesque, snowbound foothills of the Yarwan forests at CB Nath Shadimarg, the festival was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom.
Youth and students from various parts of the district participated enthusiastically, while members of the local community also joined the celebrations in large numbers.
The Snow Festival featured a variety of snow-based sports and recreational activities such as Tug of War, Relay Race, Snow Kabaddi, Sack Race, Snow Cricket, Snow Run and other fun events. The participants displayed great zeal and competitive spirit, making the festival lively and memorable.
The event was enlivened by cultural performances, including folk songs, which set a vibrant and festive tone for the day. Furthermore, on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner also administered the Nasha Mukt pledge to the participants, as a commitment to eliminate drug abuse from society.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, said that sports activities and snow festivals form part of the broader government plan aimed at constructive youth engagement. He emphasized that such initiatives encourage healthy lifestyles, teamwork and positive utilization of youth energy.
“Events like these not only provide a platform to youth to display their diverse talents but also foster community spirit and youth engagement,” he added.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner felicitated the position holders of various competitions organized on the occasion and appreciated their performances and participation.
The local population expressed gratitude to the district administration for taking such an initiative to promote winter sports and provide a platform for young talent to showcase their skills.
