Reasi: Reaffirming the district administration’s firm commitment to building a drug-free society, the Health Department Saturday organised a one-day awareness workshop under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at the Conference Hall of the DC Office Complex, Reasi.
Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Nidhi Malik, who attended the programme as the Chief Guest, described drug abuse as a grave social threat that destroys individuals, shatters families and weakens the social fabric. She emphasised that drug abuse causes severe physical and mental health issues, fuels crime and pushes society towards instability.
Highlighting the district administration’s proactive initiatives, the Deputy Commissioner pointed out that comprehensive awareness campaigns are underway across villages, panchayats, schools and colleges to educate people—particularly the youth—about the harmful consequences of drug abuse and to encourage healthy, positive and productive lifestyles.
Calling for active community participation, the Deputy Commissioner stressed that Self Help Groups, Anganwadi Workers and Health Department functionaries should act as frontline ambassadors of the initiative. She highlighted their pivotal role in engaging families, mentoring students, monitoring youth activities and spreading timely awareness to prevent drug-related challenges at the grassroots level.
Reassuring support for those in need, the Deputy Commissioner confirmed that counselling, treatment and rehabilitation services are readily available for individuals struggling with addiction. She appealed to the public to widely disseminate the helpline number 01991-245685, ensuring that help reaches those silently battling addiction without hesitation.
Officials from the Health Department, ICDS, along with members of Self-Help Groups participated in the workshop. During the programme, participants were also briefed about the objectives of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and the crucial role of the community in ensuring the success of the campaign.
CMO Reasi Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Kohli, District Immunization Officer Dr. Usha Kiran, Medical Superintendent Dr. Gopal Dutt, along with other Health Department officers, were present on the occasion.
