Handicraft Service Centre organizes “Chaupal” – Artisans’ Meet at Ramban

Ramban: The Handicraft Service Centre, (GOI) in collaboration with the district administration RambanSaturday organized a “Chaupal” (Artisans’ Meet) at Aspirational district Ramban for promoting craft awareness, youth engagement and entrepreneurship development in the handicrafts sector.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan presided over the programme, witnessed enthusiastic participation of local artisans, female folk, craftsmen and youth associated with traditional handicrafts.
DDC Member, AD Handicraft Service Centre GOI, AD Handicraft & Handloom, LDM and other officers were present.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of preserving traditional crafts while adopting modern tools and market linkages to enhance income and livelihood opportunities for artisans. He assured full support from the district administration in promoting handicrafts and strengthening artisan welfare in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the significance of the Chaupal and said that it provided a common platform for artisans to connect with officials and gain detailed information about various facilities and schemes available under the National Handicrafts Development Programme of the Government of India. The participants were apprised of opportunities related to fairs and exhibitions, skill upgradation, improved tools, Handicrafts Mudra Loan, Common Facility Centres and marketing support.
Officials from the Handicraft Service Centre and office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles GOI, informed the artisans about the registration process with the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) and the documents required for availing benefits under different schemes. Information was also shared regarding participation in prestigious marketing platforms such as Dilli Haat, Craft Bazaar and Gandhi Shilp Bazaar, training programmes, e-commerce and GeM portal registration and eligibility for national and state-level awards.
During the programme, artisans were also made aware about the support services such as Shilp Mitra, Handicraft Helpline and the role of State and Central Government agencies working for the welfare of the handicrafts sector. A hands-on demonstration on handicraft creation was also conducted under the guidance of master trainers, giving participants practical exposure.
The event concluded with an interactive session, where artisans shared their concerns and suggestions, making the Chaupal a meaningful step towards inclusive development of the handicrafts sector in Ramban.
