IUST among first universities to have adopted Start Up policy: VC

CIED- IUST secures Capital Grant under Startup Policy of Govt from JKEDI

Awantipora : In the Idea to Impact Start up Mela organized by JKEDI at Jammu, CIED- IUST has secured a Start Up grant of 50 Lacs.
The award was presented by Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah to the team from IUST led by Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor in presence of Advisor to CM, Nasir Aslam Wani, Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce, Vikramjit Singh and Director JKEDI Khalid Jahangir. On this occasion, IUST supported incubatee winner of Outstanding Entrepreneurship and Start Up award was also felicitated. Prof. Romshoo commended Prof Pervez Ahmad Mir and CIED for nurturing entrepreneurial culture among the youth. He said that IUST has already adopted Start Up policy whereby students can be Enterprisers in Residence and translate their ideas into commercial ventures. He said that the impact of CIED is manifest. Pertinently, GR8 bats was conferred with the outstanding Entrepreneurship and start up Award.
Prof Romshoo thanked the government for their continued support and added that in the Institutional Development Plan of IUST, Innovation and Entrepreneurship features as priority areas. Presently, CIED IUST operates multiple schemes including STEM (Skill to Enterprise Model) in collaboration with Small Industries Development Bank OF India, Startup India Seed Fund Schemes, (SISFS) DPIIT, GoI for strengthening of Startup ecosystem, DST’s I-TBI (Inclusive Technology Business incubator) among others. CIED is presently incubating/ mentoring over 300 startups across the length and breadth of J&K. Besides, over 20 thousand people have been imparted training/mentoring, skilling by CIED in partnership with MSME, NEESBUD, NI- MSME.
