DC Ramban reviews Anti-Narcotics measures at NCORD meeting

Ramban: Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan Friday chaired a meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) to review and further strengthen control measures to curb drug abuse in the district.
The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta, ACR Shoket Hayat Mattoo, ACD Sheraz Ahmed, Tehsildar, DSWO, CMO, CHO, Drug Control Officer and officers from various enforcement and line departments. Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars participated in the meeting through virtual mode.
Stressing on adopting a community driven approach, the Deputy Commissioner asked the ACD to involve the rural population in the anti-drug campaign. He emphasized on researched based analysis to understand the underlying reasons pushing youth towards drug abuse. The DC also instructed for the installation of multilingual awareness sign boards across the district, highlighting the devastating consequences of drug abuse.
Pitching for strict action against perpetrators, the DC asked Drug Control authorities to take effective action in close coordination with the Police Department against erring establishments. The Drug Inspector informed that the department conducted 15 raids since the last NCORD meeting, resulting in the closure of one chemist shop for violations. It was further informed that three Panchayats have been declared Drug-Free, including two in Gool and one in Ramsoo.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the District Social Welfare Officer to intensify awareness under the ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’. “The IEC material shall be displayed and distributed among youth during sports activities and public events across the district,’ he instructed.
The Education Department was directed to intensify awareness in schools and colleges through sustained campaigns, counselling, deterrence measures and regular activities such as debates, seminars, painting competitions, chart-making, quizzes and rallies.
The DC and SSP directed the Excise Department to conduct regular raids to keep check on illicit liquor trade. The BDOs were instructed to involve Peace Committees at block and police-station levels, Chowkidars and Lambardars in gathering information and identifying persons involved in drug trafficking.
