GGM Science College Organises ‘Nasha Mukt Prog’ in Collaboration with Distt Admin Jammu

Jammu: Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College, Jammu, organised a “Nasha Mukt Programme” under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The programme was a collaborative effort involving the NCORD Committee, various departments of the college, and the District Administration Jammu, aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promoting a healthy, addiction-free lifestyle among students. It commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Balkrishan, who emphasized the urgent need to address substance abuse among youth. The Chief Guest, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, commended the partnership between the college and district administration, underscoring the vital role educational institutions play in fostering responsible citizenship. He identified substance abuse as a significant social issue that necessitates education, counselling, family support, and legal measures, encouraging students to become ambassadors of change within their communities. Ms. Tarunjeet Kour from the Department of Social Welfare discussed government initiatives and rehabilitation programmes, while Dr. Shafali Abrol highlighted the psychological and social repercussions of substance abuse. Dr. Rahul Kait, Head of the Department of Zoology, elaborated on the biological and physiological effects of drug abuse on health. The event was further strengthened by the presence of several faculty members and NSS Programme Officer Dr. Neha Sharma. The programme concluded with the Nasha Mukt Pledge, where participants committed to remaining drug-free and contributing to a healthier, addiction-free society.
