G’bal: An avalanche occurred late last night at around 10:15 pm near the New Truck Yard, Sonamarg. However, the impact was minimal and no loss of life or property was reported.
A police team, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), promptly reached the area to assess the situation and ensure safety.
Authorities said that concerned agencies are closely monitoring the situation, and precautionary measures have been put in place to safeguard the public.
In view of the prevailing weather and terrain conditions, Ganderbal Police have advised the general public, tourists, and transporters to strictly avoid visiting or halting in avalanche-prone areas. Officials cautioned that the chances of further avalanches remain very high and unnecessary movement in vulnerable zones could pose serious risks.
People have been urged to follow official advisories, cooperate with local authorities, and prioritize safety while travelling through the Sonamarg axis and adjoining areas.
Police reiterated their commitment to public safety and appealed to citizens to remain alert and act responsibly.
