New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah upheld the India – European union trade deal concluded on Tuesday in Delhi, stating that it marks a defining moment, securing a strategic breakthrough in the country’s global trade engagement.
Terming the successful conclusion of the India-EU FTA as another example of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “astute diplomatic vision on a global platform,” Shah said that the agreement will usher in a “new era of prosperity by gaining unprecedented access for 99 percent of Indian exports”, opening a whole new world of opportunities across sectors for MSMEs and youth.
He congratulated PM Modi on this achievement and also citizens of the country.
Shah, taking to social media platform X, said that the India – EU FTA reflects the PM’s dictum of ‘India First,’ with required safeguards for the related sectors, and at the same time gaining unprecedented access for 99 per cent of Indian exports, opening new opportunities for textiles, apparel, leather, footwear, marine products, gems, jewelry, handicrafts, engineering goods, medical instruments and appliances, plastics and rubber, and automobile sectors.
The deal, HM said sets a new benchmark for trade agreements that are people-friendly and also creates a platform for a boom in the rural economy.
He said that the agreement is also expected to rise women’s participation through securing preferential market access for agricultural exports, and open new vistas of global aspirations to the youth to achieve new heights by unlocking opporturnities across sectors, spurring innovation and enhancing competitiveness.
