Distt Hospital Shopian Remains Operational Amid Severe Snowfall
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterWhatsappTelegramEmail
Shopian| Jan, 28 : In the face of relentless winter conditions and snowfall exceeding four feet in several parts of the district, District Hospital Shopian  continued to function with commendable efficiency, ensuring uninterrupted delivery of essential healthcare services to the public.
Reports said that heavy snowfall severely disrupted normal life, rendering roads impassable and isolating a number of remote habitations. Despite these formidable challenges, medical and paramedical personnel remained steadfast, reporting for duty and maintaining full functionality of emergency, maternity, outpatient, and inpatient services. Specially equipped four-wheel-drive ambulances were deployed to evacuate patients from snowbound areas, ensuring timely medical intervention.
During this period, the hospital successfully attended several critical cases, including obstetric emergencies, cardiac conditions, and trauma cases. Hospital authorities attributed the absence of any major medical crisis to prompt response mechanisms and effective inter-departmental coordination.
Notably, the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Javeed Ahmad Javeed has remained continuously stationed at the hospital for the past five days, personally supervising operations, monitoring service delivery, and ensuring preparedness amid the adverse weather conditions. It’s noteworthy to mention that Dr Javeed being a consultant gynecologist has performed several emergency obstetric surgeries himself while disposing duties as a medical superintendent too.
A high-level team from the Directorate of Health Services, led by Dr. Sameena Gul, visited the hospital and conducted a comprehensive inspection of all departments. The visiting team reviewed service availability and interacted extensively with patients and attendants to assess the quality of facilities being provided during the inclement weather.
Patients and local residents expressed deep appreciation for the dedication of the healthcare staff, lauding the hospital administration, the Medical Superintendent, and the government for standing resolutely with the people during a time of hardship.
The sustained functioning of District Hospital Shopian amid such extreme conditions stands as a testament to institutional resilience, effective leadership, and the unwavering commitment of frontline healthcare workers to public service.
