Srinagar : Director Agriculture Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmad Shah, Saturday visited the Floriculture Development Scheme, kitchen garden, and entomology sections at Lalmandi, Srinagar, to assess the damage caused by severe gusty winds during the intervening night of January 22-23, 2026.
The strong winds, triggered by a broader weather disturbance across the Kashmir Valley, led to uprooting of plants, damage to poly-houses and disruption of ongoing cultivation activities at the site. The Director conducted a comprehensive on-site inspection of the affected areas, including floriculture nurseries, entomology unit, and kitchen garden demonstration plots managed by the Agriculture Department.
During the visit, the Director was accompanied by senior officers and technical staff of the department. He reviewed the extent of losses to flower crops, seedlings, and departmental infrastructure and issued necessary directions for immediate remedial measures to mitigate further damage.
The Director emphasized timely restoration of affected facilities and instructed field staff to ensure early revival of cultivation activities while maintaining close monitoring of weather advisories.
