Srinagar : A training programme on the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) was organized by the Chief Agriculture Officer, Srinagar, in collaboration with the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Srinagar, at the Meeting Hall of the Directorate of Agriculture, Lal Mandi, Srinagar.
The programme was aimed at strengthening the technical knowledge and practical skills of field officials involved in pest surveillance and management.
Field officials of the Agriculture Department from District Srinagar participated in the programme.
The training focused on the importance of systematic pest surveillance, timely data reporting, and the use of modern tools for effective pest management under the NPSS.
Dr. Haroon Rashid Hakla, Assistant Plant Protection Officer, CIPMC Srinagar, DPPQ&S, Faridabad, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmer’s Welfare, conducted the hands-on training session. He demonstrated practical methods of pest identification, surveillance techniques, and digital data entry under the NPSS platform, emphasizing its role in early warning and advisory services.
The programme was held in the presence of Syed Gulzar Ahmad Shah, District Agriculture Officer (Extension)/District Nodal Officer NPSS, Srinagar, who highlighted the role of trained field staff in protecting crops and supporting farmers.
The programme concluded with active interaction, and participants appreciated the practical orientation of the training, which is expected to improve pest surveillance and crop protection efforts in the district.
