G’bal : Police on Thursday said that has unearthed a case of timber smuggling in Ganderbal district and also seized a huge quantity of forest timber.
In a statement issued here on Thursday Police said that while acting swiftly on specific and credible inputs law enforcers unearthed a case of illegal timber smuggling at Poshkar Kangan. The smuggled timber was recovered from one Imtiaz Ahmad Banya, residing in Poshkar, Kangan following which he was implicated in the illegal smuggling of the said forest timber. A case under FIR No. 06/2026 has been registered at Kangan Police Station. A special police team carried out a search operation during which illegally smuggled seized timber was recovered. The said accused Banya has been apprehended and is currently in police custody. The investigation is going on to find the source of the timber and identify accomplices besides looking deep into the broader network involved in the illegal smuggling activities. In its statement Police reiterated its commitment to safeguard the forest resources and enforce strict legal measures against environmental crimes, appealing therein people to report any illegal activities.
