DLSA Srinagar holds Quarterly UTRC meeting

Srinagar: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, under the aegis of Jammu& Kashmir Legal Services Authority, held 1st Quarterly Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) meeting Wednesday, at the District Court, Srinagar.
The meeting was chaired by Haq Nawaz Zargar, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (Principal District & Sessions Judge) Srinagar.
The meeting was attended by officials from the judiciary, police, civil administration, and medical departments to discuss ways to ensure quick and fair trials for under trial prisoners.
The meeting, convened by Secretary DLSA Srinagar, was attended by Akshay Labroo, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar; Dr. G V Sundeep Chakravarthy, SSP Srinagar; S Zulfikar, SSP Central Jail Srinagar; Mir Imtiyaz, ADC Srinagar; Umer Shah, SP Headquarters Srinagar; Jaswant Raj, CPO, District Court Srinagar and Dr. Fayaz Ahmad, Senior Medical Officer, Central Jail Srinagar.
During the session, the committee reviewed five cases of under trial prisoners. Each case was discussed in detail to understand the situation of the individuals and to suggest steps for speeding up the legal process. The recommendations aimed at making trials faster while protecting the rights of those in custody.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman DLSA Srinagar, stressed the importance of UTRC meetings in improving the justice system and protecting the rights of under trial prisoners. He said that holding such meetings regularly is essential to ensure transparency, fairness, and efficiency in legal proceedings.
DLSA Srinagar continues to work for the protection of under trial prisoner’s rights, making sure they get speedy and fair trials. The UTRC meetings are an important step towards building a more just and efficient legal system.
