Srinagar : Jammu & Kashmir Postal Circle Monday inaugurated its first N-Gen Post Office in Kashmir at the University of Kashmir campus. This is the second N-Gen Post Office in the J&K Circle, after AIIMS Vijaypur.
The N-Gen Post Office was dedicated by Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir, and D. S. V. R. Murthy, Chief Postmaster General, Jammu & Kashmir Circle, in the presence of Adam Mohi-ud-Din, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Srinagar Postal Division. The N-Gen initiative is part of the Department of Posts’ programme to modernise campus post offices and provide technology-enabled services.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. Nilofer Khan highlighted that the new initiative aligns postal services with student needs, emphasizing the Department of Posts’ commitment to enhancing service delivery in educational institutions. D. S. V. R. Murthy noted that this initiative supports the vision of Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, to transform India Post into a robust logistics and financial services organization. The N-Gen Post Office is designed to integrate various services, including postal, banking, insurance, and e-commerce, while also offering digital payment options and streamlined service processes. The Chief Postmaster General stated that the N-Gen Post Office aims to raise awareness among students and the university community regarding postal savings schemes and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) services. As part of the N-Gen initiative, the Post Office has undergone a redesign, with active participation from University of Kashmir students, who received certificates and honorariums for their contributions. The redesign features wall art created by students from the School of Fine Arts and introduces new facilities such as Aadhaar updation services, Wi-Fi, a coffee machine, and board games. Additionally, a decorative pen installation has been placed next to the letter box. The event was attended by senior postal officers, faculty members, staff, and students from the University of Kashmir.
