Ramban: Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan Monday chaired the District Level Telecom Committee meeting and reviewed the overall telecom services in the District.
The meeting aimed at strengthening measures for seamless and reliable connectivity across the district, with special focus on remote areas and the National Highway.
The meeting was attended by SSP, Arun Gupta; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Varunjeet Singh Charak; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Shokat Hayat Mattoo; Divisional Engineer BSNL, Luxmi Narayan Saini; Dy. SP Telecom, Mushtaq; Executive Engineers of PWD and JPDCL; Chief Medical Officer; Divisional Forest Officer; Tehsildars and other concerned officers. Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars participated in the meeting virtually.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the Divisional Engineer BSNL to identify all telecom shadow areas in the district and initiate measures for comprehensive coverage, particularly along the National Highway and other proposed vulnerable locations. “The coverage areas of already installed towers need to be revisited to maximize outreach and minimize uncovered pockets,” he added.
Emphasizing public convenience and safety, the Deputy Commissioner directed to ensure that the existing telecom towers remain functional round-the-clock. He also stressed the need for adequate power backup arrangements at all tower locations to ensure uninterrupted services during adverse weather conditions and to avoid any communication lapses during emergencies. Additionally, he directed strict adherence to prescribed radiation norms to ensure public health and safety.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Assistant Commissioner Revenue to take swift action on land acquisition indents submitted by BSNL for the construction of new telecom towers, so that project execution is not delayed.
The SSP suggested several measures to further improve telecom connectivity and emphasized that all BSNL towers, especially satellite-operated telecom towers, must remain operational during extreme weather and disaster-like situations to support emergency response and security operations.
Earlier, the Divisional Engineer, BSNL informed the meeting that out of 67 sanctioned towers, 23 have already been made operational, while work on the remaining 44 towers is in progress.
