DC Kupwara chairs NCORD Meeting, Reviews measures to curb Drug Abuse

Kupwara : Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse, Thursday chaired a meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to review the measures undertaken by various departments to review the ongoing anti-drug measures and the overall response to drug abuse and trafficking in the district.
The meeting was attended by SSP Kupwara, Syed Tahir Al Geelani; SSP Handwara, Sahil Sarangal; ADC Kupwara, Gulzar Ahmad Khan; ACP Kupwara, CEO, CMO, MS Associated hospital GMC Handwara and other concerned officers. Principals of Government Degree Colleges (GDCs) and Tehsildars participated in the meeting virtually.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner sought detailed feedback from all departments on the progress made on various important agenda points like functioning of ATF and DDRC, ongoing awareness drive, CCTV surveillance monitoring in hot spot areas, Nasha mukta Panchayat, rehabilitation etc.
SSP Kupwara and SSP Handwara brifed about enforcement action and preventive initiatives undertaken including registration of cases, arrests, seizures, licence suspensions, and attachment of properties related to narcotics offences.
While addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for sustained and coordinated efforts to eradicate drug abuse and addiction in the district. He directed the concerned departments to work proactively and aggressively, with special focus on the rehabilitation by facilitating self-employment opportunities.
CEO Kupwara and all Principals of GDCs were instructed to submit status of working of CCTV cameras to ensure strict surveillance and deter drug-related activities.
Tehsildars, in coordination with SHOs, were directed to monitor drug hotspot areas on regular basis.
It was emphasised to ensure support from community leaders in ongoing awareness activities to have wider impact.
The meeting concluded with emphasis on the district administration’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and urging all stakeholders to ensure coordinated and result-oriented action.
