Mumbai : The Jammu and Kashmir Government is striving hard to make the scenic Union Territory an attractive destination for filmmaking, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Thursday.
Talking to reporters in Mumbai Chief Minister emphasized the importance of developing adequate infrastructure to position Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) as an attractive destination for filmmaking. He highlighted the necessity of establishing a partnership with the Mumbai-based Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) to foster local talent and enhance post-production capabilities. During his visit to the IICT campus at the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) in Mumbai, he discussed potential collaborations and student exchange programs between IICT and the J&K government. The Chief Minister expressed optimism about implementing a hub-and-spoke model in J&K, similar to IICT’s existing structure, which features a central hub in Mumbai with satellite centers elsewhere. He noted that establishing a satellite campus in J&K could facilitate the development of local talent, reduce costs, and create job opportunities in the region. IICT is recognized as a leading institution for Animation, VFX, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) in India, supported by the Union Information & Broadcasting Ministry, the Maharashtra government, and industry organizations like FICCI and CII. The institute aims to integrate academia, industry, technology, and policy to nurture talent and enhance India’s competitiveness in creative technologies.
