Kupwara : District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kupwara Wednesday conducted an awareness programme at Right Way Public School, Braripora, under the national initiative “Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat”, with the objective of sensitizing students, teachers, and the general public about prevention of child marriage, protection of child rights, and the role and functioning of Legal Services Authorities.
During the programme, comprehensive awareness was imparted regarding the harmful social and legal consequences of child marriage and the importance of safeguarding child rights, including the right to education, health, protection, and dignity. The participants were also sensitized about the role of the legal services system in providing free legal aid and child-friendly legal services.
Special emphasis was laid on key NALSA schemes, including Legal Services to Underprivileged Children (LSUC), Legal Services to Persons with Mental Illness and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (LSUM), and NALSA DAWN (Drug Awareness and Wellness Navigation for a Drug Free India) Scheme. Awareness was created regarding substance abuse, its impact on children and society, and the preventive and rehabilitative support available under the DAWN scheme.
Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC), and Para Legal Volunteer (Adhikar Mitra), elaborated upon the objectives and benefits of the NALSA schemes.
The programme also witnessed addresses by the Principal, Right Way Public School, who emphasized the collective responsibility of parents, teachers, and community leaders in preventing child marriage, protecting children’s rights, and creating awareness against drug abuse.
The programme saw active participation from school staff, students, local teachers, and members of the public. The initiative was widely appreciated for promoting legal awareness and community participation.
The District Legal Services Authority, Kupwara reiterated its commitment to continue such awareness and outreach programmes to strengthen child protection mechanisms and ensure access to justice for all.
