DC Rajouri reviews implementation of FS&SA

Rajouri : Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma Wednesday chaired a meeting of the District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) to review the implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act and to assess the overall food safety enforcement mechanism in the district.

During the meeting, the DC reviewed compliance with food safety standards, enforcement measures and the functioning of food safety regulations across the district. He also reviewed the status of online registration of schools on the Eat Right Portal and the certification of Eat Right Schools, emphasizing the need for maximum coverage.

The DC stressed the promotion of fortified food under ICDS, Mid-Day Meal (MDM) and Public Distribution System (PDS) to address nutritional deficiencies. He directed the concerned departments to intensify training and awareness programmes on food safety, hygiene, Eat Right initiatives and safe food practices.

Emphasizing public health protection, the DC issued strict directions for effective implementation of COTPA, stating that no shop shall sell cigarettes or tobacco products adjacent to educational institutions. He also underlined the importance of FoSTaC training for ICDS functionaries, ASHA workers and teachers associated with Mid-Day Meals to ensure food safety at the grassroots level.

The DC further directed the promotion of millet-based recipes in departmental canteens as part of the nutrition and healthy diet initiative. He emphasized strict enforcement and regular inspections of deep-frozen food units, restaurants, dhabas and street food vendors, along with thorough checking of dairy products and poultry items to ensure food safety compliance.

The meeting was attended by ADDC, Malikzada Sheraz ul Haq; General Manager DIC, Harpal Singh; CPO, Masooq Ahmed; AC Food Safety, Tariq Mahmood; CMO, Dr. Manohar Lal Rana; AD FCS&CA, Rohit Kumar; DySP, Khaliq Hussain; Chief Agriculture Officer, Rajesh Verma and other district and sectoral officers.
