Doda : Ice boxes were Wednesday provided to fishermen of the Doda district under the Jammu and Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement of Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project (JKCIP).
Deputy Commissioner, Harvinder Singh gave away the Boxes to the fishermen at the DC Office Complex. The initiative aims to facilitate hygienic and scientific preservation of fish, reducing post-harvest losses and enhancing market value.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner urged the fishermen to enroll for Vishwakarma Scheme to procure fishing nets and other allied support. “These schemes are meant for livelihood enhancement, skill development and promoting self-reliance among traditional occupational groups, including vulnerable fishermen and fisherwomen,” he added.
The DC also sensitized the fishermen to safety protocols, advising them to avoid fishing in flood-prone and landslide-prone zones, particularly during adverse weather conditions. Highlighting the utility of the ice boxes, he informed that these would help maintain freshness and hygiene of fish during storage and transportation.
The Deputy Commissioner also listened to the issues and suggestions of Fishermen and assured them of continued support from the District Administration for the overall development of the fisheries sector in the district.
The programme was attended by ACR, Ashraf Pervez; CPO, Manesh Kumar Manhas; Assistant Director Fisheries and other concerned officers and staff.
