Srinagar : The Department of Botany, University of Kashmir (KU), on Tuesday began a two-day workshop titled “Managing Invasions for Grassland Restoration and Resilience” under the RUSA 2.0 project in collaboration with ICAR -Indian Grassland & Research Fodder Institute, Regional Research Station Srinagar, at the Main Campus.
The workshop focused on the ecological integrity of grasslands that addressed the threats posed by invasive species and exploring practical restoration and management strategies. Speaking on the occasion Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan, emphasized the critical role of grasslands for biodiversity, livelihoods, and climate resilience, urging universities to generate region-specific knowledge for their conservation. Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal highlighted the necessity of institutional support and capacity-building to enhance research-led ecological conservation efforts. Dean of the School of Biological Sciences, Prof. Abdul Hamid Wani, stressed the importance of interdisciplinary research and collaboration in tackling complex issues like grassland degradation.
