Jammu : Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, Monday reviewed the preparations for Phase-II of the Commemoration of 150 Years of ‘Vande Mataram’, the National Song of India, scheduled to be observed across the J&K from January 19 to January 26, 2026, coinciding with the Republic Day celebrations together with the national celebrations held on this occasion. The review meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Culture Department; Commissioner Secretary, Tourism; Secretary, School Education; Director, School Education, and other senior officers of the concerned departments. Deputy Commissioners from all districts participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
Addressing the meeting Chief Secretary commended the outstanding performance of all districts during Phase-I of the Vande Mataram celebrations, which positioned Jammu & Kashmir as the leading region in the country, surpassing larger states in participation and impact. He praised the collaborative efforts of district administrations and educational departments in organizing significant patriotic and cultural events that highlighted the historical and emotional importance of Vande Mataram as a symbol of India’s freedom struggle and national unity. Encouraging the Deputy Commissioners to maintain this momentum, the Chief Secretary emphasized the need for an equally successful Phase-II, set to begin on January 19. He stressed the importance of enhancing public engagement, particularly among youth and community groups, to foster national pride and unity throughout the Union Territory. During the review of the Phase-II Action Plan, he highlighted the necessity for effective publicity, documentation, and outreach, directing the implementation of a structured publicity campaign through the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR). He also called for extensive sharing of photographs and videos on the dedicated Government of India portal and increased visibility through social media. The Principal Secretary of the Culture Department reported that Phase-I, held from November 7 to 14, 2025, saw participation from approximately 1.22 crore individuals, with notable events at Abhinav Theatre and M.A. Stadium in Jammu, featuring mass singing of Vande Mataram and vibrant cultural performances. Key activities planned for Phase-II include Vande Mataram Torch Relays, mass singing events at various institutions, and integration of the theme into Republic Day celebrations. Additional programs such as essay writing, poster-making, debate competitions, exhibitions, and youth marathons are also scheduled to maximize public participation and awareness. The Chief Secretary reiterated that the commemoration of 150 years of Vande Mataram should be viewed as a people’s movement aimed at reconnecting citizens with the ideals of freedom, unity, and national pride. He urged all departments to work diligently to ensure that the Phase-II celebrations are impactful, inclusive, and memorable.
