Kishtwar : In a significant step towards strengthening labour welfare and awareness, the Department of Labour, Kishtwar, organized an extensive awareness camp at the Power House of the Pakal Dul (Afcons site) Hydroelectric Power Project (HEP).

The programme was conducted under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma and under the supervision of the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Kishtwar, Mamta Sudershan.

The awareness drive aimed at familiarizing workers with the newly enacted Labour Codes and various Financial Inclusion Schemes of the Government of India in which over 200 workers engaged at the project site actively participated in the programme.

During the camp, detailed and interactive sessions were held on key labour legislations, including the Labour Codes, the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, the Social Security Code and the Labour Card system.

The sessions comprehensively highlighted the rights, duties, and entitlements of workers under the revamped labour law framework.

Officials of the Labour Department interacted extensively with workers belonging to skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled categories, addressing their queries and concerns.

The participants were sensitized about labour welfare measures, workplace safety norms and social security provisions aimed at ensuring a secure and dignified working environment.

Special emphasis was laid on promoting Financial Inclusion Schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana.

Workers were apprised in detail about the eligibility criteria, benefits and enrollment procedures under these schemes to enable them to avail long-term social and financial security.

The programme was well received by the workforce and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to safeguarding labour rights while promoting awareness and inclusion among workers at major infrastructure projects in the district.
