DLSA, SWD organises awareness camp on Prohibition of Child Marriage Act at Talwara, Reasi

Reasi: Under the visionary leadership of Khalil Choudhary, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Reasi& Principal District and Sessions Judge Reasi and Pooja Gupta, Secretary DLSA Reasi, the District Legal Services Authority Reasi organized an awareness program on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department Reasi at Talwara, Reasi

During the program, the general public was sensitized about the ill effects and legal consequences of child marriage, the provisions of the Act and the importance of ensuring education, health, and holistic development of children. Participants were also informed about the availability of free legal aid services through DLSA Reasi and the role of Legal Services Authorities in safeguarding the rights of women and children.

In addition, awareness programs on various Government welfare schemes were conducted at Sahri and Shajroo, Mahore by PLVs of DLSA Reasi and TLSC Mahore. These programs were aimed at spreading legal awareness among marginalized and vulnerable sections of society regarding benefits, eligibility criteria, and procedures for availing different welfare schemes. The PLVs highlighted schemes related to social security, health, education, women and child welfare, and other public benefit initiatives, while also emphasizing the role of Legal Services Authorities in providing free legal aid to eligible persons.

Further, Niharika Bamotra, Assistant LADC, DLSA Reasi visited Police Station Reasi and Sub Jail Reasi, where she interacted with police officials and jail inmates. The visit focused on reviewing matters concerning legal aid defense services for accused persons and under trial prisoners, ensuring timely legal representation, safeguarding rights of persons in custody and strengthening coordination between police and the Legal Aid Defence Counsel system. The visit also sensitized police personnel and inmates about the importance of referring eligible persons for free legal aid in line with the mandate of NALSA.

An awareness program on the SAMVAD Scheme was also organized at village Chamba, Katra by PLVs of TLSC Katra. The program highlighted the objectives and benefits of the scheme, particularly its role in strengthening dialogue, grievance redressal and access to legal aid at the grassroots level without discrimination.
