Kupwara: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Shrikant Suse, Thursday chaired a Block Diwas programme at Government Higher Secondary School (HSS) Lalpora aimed at hearing and redressing public grievances at the grassroots level.

The event was attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Lolab, Mudassir Ahmad; Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), Chief Planning Officer (CPO), Chief Education Officer (CEO), Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Assistant Director, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs; Executive Engineers of R&B, Jal Shakti and I&FC; Block Development Officer (BDO), Tehsildar, Block Medical Officer (BMO), Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), besides other officers of the line departments and a large gathering of local inhabitants.

While addressing the participants, the DDC reiterated the Government’s unwavering commitment to public welfare and inclusive development, particularly focusing on the upliftment of people residing in remote and far-flung areas. He exhorted all officers to discharge their duties with utmost diligence, coordination, and dedication to ensure timely resolution of public grievances and effective implementation of developmental schemes.

Expressing satisfaction over the progress achieved under Mission YUVA, the DDC encouraged unemployed youth to actively participate in the mission by establishing self-employment ventures, thereby becoming job providers rather than job seekers. He informed the participants that SDM Lolab has been designated as the Nodal Officer to address grievances of Mission YUVA applicants within the subdivision.

During the proceedings, the DDC conducted a comprehensive review of various departments, including Power Development Department (PDD), Public Health Engineering (PHE), Roads & Buildings (R&B), Health, and Education, to assess their performance in Lalpora Tehsil.

Several issues raised by the public were resolved on the spot. The DDC accepted demand for borewell at Government Higher Secondary School Lalpora, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the institution. Additionally, he directed the Tehsildar Lalpora to undertake demarcation of land for construction of a sanitary complex in Lalpora market to facilitate public convenience.

Taking serious note of the shortage of paramedical staff at PHC Lalpora, the DDC directed the Chief Medical Officer to take action for prompt redressal of the issue. He also emphasized the need for inter-departmental coordination to ensure seamless implementation of government programmes and efficient service delivery.

Earlier, prominent citizens and local representatives of Lalpora Tehsil apprised the DDC of various developmental issues such as augmentation of drinking water supply, desilting of irrigation khuls, and healthcare facility enhancement, road upgradation, etc.

On the occasion, the DDC distributed several benefits and entitlements among beneficiaries, including SVAMITVA Cards, Income Certificates, etc.

Stressing the importance of sanitation and waste management, the DDC directed the BDO Lalpora to identify a suitable dumping site for solid waste disposal to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the area.

Later, the DDC undertook an extensive field inspection of Lalpora Tehsil, reviewing ongoing digitization of revenue records at ITI Lalpora and as well as issues related to ITI, High school, JJM and Poshan Abhiyan.
