Says “NMC Decision Protects MBBS Futures, Decision To Accommodate MBBS Students In Other Colleges Laudable”
“Open New Gurukul , Veda Research Centre In Katra”
Srinagar : Sunil Sharma, the Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and a senior BJP leader on Wednesday voiced support for the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) decision to withdraw the Letter of Permission (LoP) for the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College of Excellence due to serious irregularities found during an inspection.
He told reporters in Jammu that this action not only addresses long-standing issues but also protects the academic interests of MBBS students, who have been relocated to other medical colleges. Sharma praised the NMC’s decision as historic and highlighted the importance of maintaining public trust and respecting the religious sentiments associated with the Vaishno Devi Shrine. He acknowledged the efforts of Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and the NMC in ensuring fairness and accountability, which he believes has restored faith among millions of devotees. The NMC’s inspection revealed multiple irregularities, leading to the withdrawal of the LoP and the reassignment of affected students. Sharma criticized former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for attempting to politicize the issue, asserting that the BJP’s focus is on preserving the sanctity of the shrine and ensuring that offerings made for religious purposes are not misappropriated. He reiterated the BJP’s commitment to honoring the sentiments of devotees and suggested the establishment of a Gurukul and Veda Research Centre at the shrine, emphasizing that it should remain a place of spiritual significance.
