Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Budgam and also recovered a contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued here on Monday Police said that a police team from Police Post Narbal intercepted a vehicle, an Ertiga with registration no JK05M-8910, at a checkpoint in Syed Mohallah Narbal, near Peer Masjid. During the search, they seized 32 grams of a substance resembling Charas in the possession of the driver, identified as Showkat Ahmad Wani, S/O Abdul Ahad Wani, from Wanigam, Pattan, Baramulla. Wani was subsequently arrested and taken to the police station, where he remains in custody. The vehicle involved in the crime has also been seized. The police have registered a case under FIR No. 02/2026 at Police Station Magam, and further investigations are ongoing. In its statement Police reiterated its commitment to combat drug abuse in society and appealed people to report any information related to drug peddling or trafficking.
