Srinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Grand International Exposition of Sacred Piprahwa Relics in New Delhi, marking the historic return of Lord Buddha’s priceless relics to India after more than a century.  The exhibition celebrates India’s role as the protector and carrier of Buddha’s heritage, allowing citizens and pilgrims to witness the sacred artifacts and seek blessings while highlighting efforts to preserve and promote the teachings and culture of the Awakened One.” Below are few highlights of the Prime Minister’s address at the inaugural event:-

PM Modi Inaugurates Grand Exhibition of Buddha Relics:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday this week inaugurated the Grand International Exposition of Sacred Piprahwa Relics, titled “The Light & the Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One”, at the Rai Pithora Cultural Complex. The exhibition showcases the Piprahwa gem relics of Lord Buddha, repatriated to India after 127 years, along with relics unearthed during excavations in 1898 and 1971-1975.

India Welcomes Back Priceless Buddha Relics After 125 Years: PM Modi on Saturday said India’s priceless heritage has returned to the country after 125 years, referring to the sacred relics of Lord Buddha now on display. “Indian citizens will now be able to have darshan of these pure relics and seek His blessings,” he said, calling it a moment of national pride.

PM Modi Calls India The Carrier Of Buddha’s Traditions:

Prime Minister Modi Saturday this week  emphasised that India is not only the protector of Lord Buddha’s heritage but also the carrier of his traditions. He highlighted efforts to modernise Buddhist sites, build new facilities for pilgrims, and promote knowledge of Pali, the classical language associated with Lord Buddha.

Repatriation Of Relics Marks Fight Against Heritage Exploitation: Speaking at the exhibition, PM Modi on Saturday said that relics of Lord Buddha were taken abroad and intended for auction, but India ensured their return. “Slavery destroys our heritage – the relics were snatched and sent to the international market, but for India, they are part of our society,” he said.

PM Modi Shares Buddha’s Influence On His Life: PM Modi spoke about the deep impact of Lord Buddha on his own life, recalling his birthplace near Sarnath, where Buddha gave his first teachings. He also highlighted his efforts to spread Buddha’s heritage abroad, including taking a Bodhi plant to China, Japan, and Mongolia.
