Terror Support Case: Police in Pulwama Secures Conviction under UAPA

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has secured the conviction of three accused persons in a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act here in Pulwama.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday Police said Special Court designated under the NIA Act in Pulwama has recorded convictions related to FIR No. 151/2022, involving serious charges under various legal provisions, including the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The accused were found guilty of providing shelter and support to terrorists associated with a banned organization. Mehraj Ud Din Mir received a sentence of three years of simple imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000 for his involvement under Section 19 of the UA(P) Act, and an additional three years and ten months under Section 39, with both sentences to run concurrently. Firdous Ahmad Bhat and Irshad Ahmad Malik were each sentenced to three years and ten months under Section 39 of the UA(P) Act. The court also noted that the time already spent in custody would be accounted for in their sentences. Police in its statement also said that these convictions are the result of a thorough investigation and effective prosecution showing commitment to combat terrorism and dismantle its support networks.
