Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has seized 17 vehicles and 3 JCBs in separate operations for illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Baramulla and Ganderbal.
In a statement here on Monday Police said that three JCB machines involved in illegal stone extraction were seized in a coordinated operation between the Police Post Old Town and the Geology & Mining Department in Baramulla. The JCBs, identified by their chassis numbers 1384197A2010, HAR3DXXTA01488983, and HAR3DXSSC01846152, were confiscated along with a dumper (registration number JK05J7048) that was transporting illegally extracted sand. Legal action has been initiated against the violators under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR Act) following thorough verification of the activities. Similarly, in Ganderbal, police teams seized 16 vehicles, including 12 tippers and 4 tractors, that were illegally extracting and transporting minor minerals. These vehicles were intercepted while transporting materials from Nallah Sindh without the necessary permissions. The operation involved close collaboration with the Geology & Mining Department, emphasizing a strong response to illegal mineral transportation in the district. In its statement Police reiterated its commitment to combat illegal mining activities and continue strict enforcement against any violations of the law.
