Srinagar: IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi on Friday chaired annual crime review meeting at Police Control Room, Kashmir. The meeting was attended by all Range DIGs of Kashmir Zone, all District SSPs of Kashmir Zone, JDP ZPHQ, and other senior officers.
During a recent meeting, participating officers briefed the IGP Kashmir on the crime situation in the Kashmir Zone, emphasizing their efforts in crime prevention and enhancing investigation quality. The discussions covered various critical topics, including the investigation of cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), property attachment in UAPA cases, terror-related and financing cases, detentions under the Public Safety Act (PSA), narcotics-related offenses, and cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The meeting also addressed preventive measures, pending inquest proceedings, and the arrest of absconders. District Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) presented detailed reports on their respective districts, focusing on crime prevention initiatives, the registration of First Information Reports (FIRs) and e-FIRs, the status of investigations, and case disposal rates.
The IGP reviewed these presentations and commended the district heads for their crime prevention efforts. He emphasized the necessity of enhancing investigation quality and improving conviction rates, particularly in narcotics and terror-related cases, by utilizing scientific tools and implementing a stronger follow-up system. V.K. Birdi provided clear directives to the officers regarding crime control, investigation, prosecution, and the timely resolution of cases, aiming to bolster accountability and ensure prompt justice delivery. The IGP instructed district heads to organize regular capacity-building workshops for investigation officers to enhance their skills and legal knowledge, particularly in handling drug-related offenses. He encouraged proactive monitoring and periodic crime review meetings within districts to maintain oversight. The IGP on this occasion reaffirmed the commitment of police to transparency, accountability, and the swift resolution of cases, ensuring timely justice and the welfare of the public.
