Jammu: Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, Tuesday chaired a review meeting at the Civil Secretariat here to assess and address the pressing drinking water related issues in various localities of Jammu city.
The Minister impressed upon the concerned officers to formulate both short-term and long-term strategies to ensure that the existing as well as future drinking water requirements of the city are met in a sustainable manner. He underscored the importance of ensuring a regular, adequate and reliable water supply for the public. He directed the officials to respond promptly and effectively to public grievances.
During the deliberations, the Minister reviewed the proposal for permanent restoration of the Sitlee Water Treatment Plant. He instructed the concerned authorities to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) at the earliest to facilitate timely execution of the project.
To further augment the drinking water supply in Chaman Vihar and adjoining areas, the Minister directed to make the pumping water station fully operational within a week. He noted that once functional, the project would substantially alleviate water scarcity issues faced by the residents in the area.
Emphasising efficient utilisation of available resources, the Minister stressed that all development initiatives must translate into tangible benefits for the people on the ground. He also highlighted the need for expeditious completion of procedural and administrative formalities to ensure early implementation of approved projects.
Reviewing another significant intervention, the Minister discussed the construction of a sump tank at Kamdhenu. He said that the facility would address the drinking water concerns not only in Kamdhenu but also in surrounding areas once it gets completed.
The Minister also took note of the issues raised by MLA Jammu West, Arvind Gupta. He assured him that all genuine concerns pertaining to drinking water supply would be examined and addressed on priority.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Engineer, PHE, Superintending Engineers and other senior officers of the department.
