Event aims to celebrate achievements of women in science and education

Srinagar : The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar is set to host the inaugural Women’s Science Conclave (WSC–2026) on March 8, 2026, coinciding with International Women’s Day, in a hybrid format.
The event, titled SANGAM 2.0 (W), is organized under the auspices of the NIT Srinagar Alumni Association in collaboration with various organizations and entrepreneurs, aiming to celebrate the achievements of women associated with the institute. The brochure for the conclave was launched during a ceremony attended by key dignitaries, including Prof. Mohammad Shafi Mir, President of AANITS, and Er Aamir Ali Mir, Vice President of AANITS. The event was co-hosted by Prof. M A Shah, Dean of Alumni and International Affairs, and Dr. H S Pali, Associate Dean. Faculty members and research scholars participated actively, providing suggestions and feedback. Prof. Mir emphasized the significance of the conclave as a means to reconnect women alumnae with their alma mater, allowing their experiences to mentor the next generation. Er Aamir Ali highlighted the conclave’s role in strengthening alumni relations and empowering women in science and leadership, while Prof. Shah described WSC–2026 as a movement promoting mentorship, inclusion, and academic excellence. The conclave will honor women alumnae excelling in various fields and aims to inspire current students through stories of leadership and innovation. It is expected to benefit nearly 1,000 female students and staff by providing mentorship and academic support. With a global alumni network of over 40,000 graduates, the event invites alumni, educationists, and well-wishers to engage with students and staff. Participants will have the opportunity to submit one-page abstracts for publication in a Scopus-indexed abstract book, and the event will also commemorate National Science Day in honor of Nobel laureate C V Raman. For effective coordination, branch-wise coordinators have been appointed, with Prof. Kowsar Majid leading the overall efforts.
