Ganderbal: The Roads and Buildings (R&B) Division, Ganderbal, has been placed on alert in view of forecasts predicting fresh snowfall, with authorities intensifying preparedness measures to ensure road connectivity and public safety across the district.
The preparedness exercise is being carried out under the supervision of Executive Engineer Er. Mohd Aarif, while the District Administration is closely monitoring weather conditions and coordinating response efforts.
Executive Engineer Er. Aarif Mohammad Iqbal said that manpower and machinery have been kept ready for swift deployment. “All essential arrangements have been finalised to facilitate prompt snow clearance and minimise disruption to traffic movement,” he said.
Officials said that around 508 kilometres of road network, spanning 18 operational stages of the division, have been identified for snow clearance. Details of contractors engaged for the task have been shared with the District Administration, and digital communication platforms have been activated to ensure real-time coordination.
Field staff have been placed on round-the-clock standby, while snow clearance machinery, including JCBs and tractors, has been strategically positioned at vulnerable and priority stretches, officials said.
Snow clearance operations will commence immediately after snowfall to ensure uninterrupted movement of traffic, they added, noting that the exercise will be conducted in close coordination with the District Administration.
