DM Baramulla Chairs 23rd NCORD Meeting, Issues Key Directions to Curb Drug Abuse

Baramulla, December 20: District Magistrate Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, chaired the 23rd meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) today at the Meeting Hall of the DC’s office Baramulla.

SSP Baramulla, Gurinderpal Singh, SSP Sopore, Iftakhar Talib,ADC Sopore, S.A Raina,ADC Baramulla, Syed Altaf Hussain, ACD, Mudasir Hussain Chaudhary along with other concerned district and sectoral officers, were present during the meeting.

During the meeting, the District Social Welfare Officer,Sajad Ahmad Bhat gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation, highlighting ongoing awareness, preventive and rehabilitation initiatives being implemented under various anti-drug programmes in the district.

The District Magistrate reviewed the overall anti-drug strategy and issued several important directions. He directed the launch of IEC Phase-II from 1st January, along with necessary training for resource persons, to strengthen public awareness and community outreach.

Minga Sherpa further directed the Municipal Committees and the Rural Development Department to ensure the installation of street lights and CCTV cameras at identified drug hotspots to enhance surveillance and safety. The District Magistrate also instructed the concerned authorities to register FIRs against persons involved in poppy cultivation and stressed strict action as per law.

The District Magistrate directed officers to conduct regular surprise inspections of pharmacies to curb the misuse and illegal sale of narcotic and psychotropic substances. He also instructed the Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) to ensure the completion of the DDAC building at Sopore by 15th January.

Additionally, the District Magistrate directed the ARTO to initiate action for suspension of driving licences of persons involved in NDPS cases, in accordance with prescribed norms.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on strengthened inter-departmental coordination and a zero-tolerance approach towards drug abuse to ensure effective implementation of NCORD initiatives across the district.
