Srinagar: Dense fog blanketed Kashmir on Thursday, snarling traffic and disrupting travel during morning and evening rush hours
Witnesses told the news agency, that several roads across the Valley, including Srinagar-Jammu highway, Baramulla-Handwara, and Pulwama-Kulgam routes and other Srinagar city roads saw a low visibility due to thick fog.
Officials have warned drivers and asked them to exercise caution and adhere to traffic advisories due to dense fog reducing visibility to less than 50 meters in various parts of the Valley. This situation is impacting both local and inter-district travel, prompting the deployment of additional traffic personnel to facilitate smooth movement on key routes. Transporters are advised to take precautionary measures and limit travel during peak fog hours. Passengers on highways have reported significant delays, with vehicles moving at reduced speeds. One commuter noted that it took over an hour to cover a short distance due to the fog. Meteorological officials predict that the fog will persist for several days, particularly in the early mornings and late evenings, as night temperatures continue to drop. Residents, especially those in fog-prone hilly areas, are urged to take necessary precautions. Motorists are recommended to use fog lights, maintain safe distances, and adhere to all traffic regulations. Additionally, the administration has advised tourists to check road conditions prior to travel and to avoid unnecessary night journeys, especially in higher regions where fog is denser.
