Awantipora : The Centre for International Relations (CIR), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), organised a special lecture titled “Communication as a Transformative Process.” The lecture was delivered by Prof. Kaushikee, Professor and former Director, Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Jamia Millia Islamia. The event was attended by faculty members, research scholars, and students of the Islamic University of Science and Technology.
In her address Prof. Kaushikee emphasized that communication transcends mere information transmission; it is a transformative process that shapes perceptions, relationships, and social realities. Her insights, rooted in peace and conflict studies, highlighted the ethical responsibilities inherent in communication practices, especially in conflict resolution and peacebuilding. She pointed out that communication can either reinforce existing power imbalances or foster meaningful dialogue, reconciliation, and sustainable peace. Dr. Syed Jaleel Hussain, in his opening remarks, outlined the Centre’s academic and research initiatives, stressing the importance of communication in contemporary social and political contexts. He noted its critical role in shaping discourse, mediating power relations, and addressing the complexities involved in conflict and peacebuilding. The lecture was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, where participants engaged with Prof. Kaushikee on topics related to communication, ethics, power, media, and their implications for peace building.
