Srinagar: Aspirants affected by the 2020 Fire and Emergency Services recruitment scam on Thursday thanked Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for what they called “a transparent and fair handling of the inquiry” that led to the termination of 103 firemen earlier this week.
Aspirants gathered at the Press Enclave in Srinagar to express their gratitude towards the Lieutenant Governor (LG) administration for addressing the findings of the investigation into the 2020 recruitment irregularities. Participants highlighted the fairness and transparency of the inquiry, noting that it marked a significant moment where their concerns were acknowledged, thereby restoring faith in merit-based recruitment processes. The actions taken by LG Manoj Sinha were praised for promoting honesty and integrity in recruitment, with one aspirant emphasizing that this is merely the beginning of a larger movement towards accountability. The decision to terminate 103 firemen appointed through the flawed 2020 recruitment process was a direct result of the inquiry committee’s report and an Anti-Corruption Bureau investigation, which revealed serious misconduct including tampering with OMR sheets and manipulation of merit lists. The participants said that this initiative sends a strong message against corruption in recruitment, instilling hope among deserving candidates. They expressed optimism that this commitment to accountability would extend across all departments in Jammu and Kashmir, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing fight for transparent recruitment practices.
