NIT Srinagar students clinch Gold at Srinagar District Table Tennis championship

 Srinagar, Dec 18: Ms Zainab, a 6th Semester BTech Civil Engineering student, and Er. Wasid, a PhD scholar from the Civil Engineering Department, brought laurels to their institution by winning gold medals at the Srinagar District Table Tennis Tournament, organized by the Table Tennis Association of Jammu and Kashmir.

Ms Zainab clinched the championship title in the Women’s/Girls category, exhibiting exceptional skill and composure throughout the competition.

Her achievement was widely appreciated as a milestone for student participation in sports. Er. Wasid delivered an equally impressive performance by securing gold medals in both the Men’s Veterans and Men’s Seniors categories, underlining his excellence and experience in the sport.

The tournament was organized under the supervision of Dr. Qazi Inam of the J&K Table Tennis Association, who served as the chief organizer. The valedictory function was attended by former Dean Academic Affairs and Prof. Mohammad Shafi Mir, who was the chief guest on the occasion.

Congratulating the winners, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, lauded their achievements and said that such accomplishments reflect the institute’s commitment to holistic education, encouraging students and researchers to excel not only in academics but also in sports and extracurricular activities.

Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof. Atikur Rehman, also extended his congratulations to Ms Zainab and Er. Wasid, stating that their success has brought pride to the institution and will inspire other students to actively participate in sports and competitive events.

In his address, Prof. Mohammad Shafi Mir lauded the performances of the winners and emphasized the importance of sports in academic institutions.

He said that participation in sports helps in building discipline, leadership qualities, and a healthy competitive spirit among students, and hoped that such achievements would inspire more youth to take up sports seriously.

Both achievers were felicitated amid applause, with speakers terming their success a boost to the sporting culture in Srinagar district.
